Shockwave

Book Now

In 2024, we began offering Shockwave therapy as a treatment modality.  Your physiotherapist or chiropractor can recommend it as part of your comprehensive rehab plan.  Once your physiotherapist or chiropractor has recommended a treatment protocol, you can book in for either a stand-alone shockwave session (15 minutes), or a shockwave session and active gym rehab (30 minutes).

4-8 weekly sessions are recommended, but each person is different.  Some will have success after 2 sessions, some may need more than 8.  And, as with all treatment components and plans, some people may not respond to the modality at all.  We do not offer any sort of guarantee.

Contraindications to shockwave therapy

  • Pregnancy
  • Cancer
  • Open wounds or infection
  • Metal
  • Acute inflammatory conditions
  • Pacemakers
  • *Speak to your practitioner if any of these conditions may apply to you*

Post treatment effects

  • Mild discomfort: some patients may experience mild discomfort, soreness, redness or slight bruising at the treatment site which typically subsides within a day
  • Gradual improvement: while immediate relief is possible, the full benefits of shockwave therapy may take a few weeks to manifest as the body undergoes the healing and regeneration process
  • Following treatment, speak to your practitioner about their recommended post shockwave therapy activity modifications. It may be advisable to avoid strenuous activities for a brief period, however there is evidence to show that active range of motion exercises immediately post treatment can also be effective.

Remember, your practitioner will assess your individual condition and discuss the suitability of shockwave therapy as part of your personalized treatment plan. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to ask for more information during your consultation.

To try shockwave treatments, please ask your physio or chiro for their advice and referral.
