Concussion Collective

Brownstone Health professionals have teamed up with Brain Vitals and Innovate Healing Technology to create the Concussion Collective.

The Concussion Collective is a new endeavour, drawing on expertise from 3 different businesses to create the most holistic approach for our patients.  Brownstone Health is certified, and our physios and chiropractors have maintained substantial continuing education and accreditation through CCMI (Complete Concussion Management Incorporated).  CCMI is a nationally recognized and standardized program requiring intensive post-graduate training. More information is available through www.completeconcussions.com.

BASELINES:

Through the lense of prevention, we offer individual and team baseline testing.  This testing can be done either through CCMI with Brownstone Health practitioners.  Once a CCMI baseline has been completed, if you are concussed in the future, there are clinics across Canada that are accredited for you to attend a receive care.  They all will have access to your baseline results.

*the baselines are subsidized as part of the Community Cares initiative at Brownstone Health*

Another option using cutting edge technology for objective data and results is to have an ERP (Event-Related Potentials) brain scan done through Brain Vitals.  A physician with specialty training will interpret the brain scan with you, and you have the results to take to your medical team.  This is booked through Brain Vitals (www.brainvitals.ca), a company that is independent from Brownstone Health, but rents space in the same building.  Our admin team is able to answer any questions you may have, or send an email to info@brainvitals.ca

POST-CONCUSSION ASSESSMENT

If you have been concussed, Brownstone Health offers physio/chiro assessment and treatment based on the standardized national protocols of CCMI.  We can help with symptom management, answer questions about realistic expectations and evidence-based next steps.  You will have one on one time with either a licensed physiotherapist or chiropractor that has undergone the educational program and exam-based accreditation of the CCMI.  During the assessment, depending upon your presentation and symptoms, the history of your concussion will be recorded, some vestibular and cognitive testing may be performed, cervical manual therapy may be included, if required.

For more advanced post-concussion assessment, we are fortunate to have Brain Vitals as part of the Brownstone Health Collective. They provide the ERP brain scan, using  NeuroCatch technology. Visit www.neurocatch.ca for more information on the capabilities of this amazing device.

POST-CONCUSSION TREATMENT

Brownstone Health is proud to be a part of Regina’s Concussion Collaborative.  The Concussion Collaborative is an open group of health practitioners that have interest and advanced training for concussion management.

Brownstone Health has a team of very experienced TMD therapists, vestibular therapists, physios with advanced training in balance rehabilitation, and high-level manual therapists for cervical (neck joint) dysfunction. A meditation and mindfulness coach is also available to teach various types of meditation, provide guided meditation, and also take patients through Yoga Nidra sequences.  We are using technology for neural biofeedback to help you practice these skills at home.  These sessions can be booked individually for instruction, or in series.  If you are booking follow-ups, our coach can log into our software and provide recommendations for your at-home practice based on your results.

Symptom management can be challenging.  Innovate Healing Technologies is a business that works hand in hand with our Brownstone Health practitioners, as well as the Brain Vitals’ physicians.  Innovate Healing Technologies was developed to help “health meet science”.  They are constantly on the search for evidence-based treatment modalities that can be used in conjunction with solid, knowledgeable professional care. They don’t intend to replace your medical professional.  Instead, they offer treatment modalities which show promise in treatment of symptoms, while you receive care from your health care team.  As each concussion is unique, responses to these treatments are unique as well.  These sessions are not regulated or offered through a medical professional, so no receipt for insurance purposes can be provided.  They are a combination of technology that you can try, with the intention of offering a bit of relief as you receive proper medical care.

Brain Vitals scans can be used to see which areas of the brain have been affected the most, and helpful tailoring your treatments to the focal areas.

The Concussion Collaborative is not exclusive to Brownstone Health.  It has been spearheaded by Brain Vitals.  If you are a practitioner that would like to join up with us, we welcome a conversation!  Please email info@brainvitals.ca to set up a chance to chat and discuss how we can collaborate.
